Invention Evaluation
Jack Carik, 248-650-0883, Carik Marketing Group, Rochester, MI. Jack
has been listing in the "Broker" section of our "New
Products Wanted" column almost since our beginning. Over those
dozen years, he's looked at a lot of inventors' products. Most were not
marketable for reasons clearly obvious to those with experience in the
target market. Yet many of those inventors had already poured thousands
of dollars into patents and prototypes.
He's come to the conclusion that the best service he can provide for
inventors is to give them a good "market read", i.e., objectively,
"Is this idea worth pursuing?" - and if so, specific
suggestions for doing so.
He's assembled a team of his industry contacts (he was a sales rep
for many consumer product companies throughout his career) to offer a
new invention evaluation service. For $150, he and his team will review
your idea under a non-disclosure agreement and give you a written report
of their advice.
For forms and details, call him at the number above or see his Web
page at www.inventorservices.com.
Ed. note: Beginning inventors have a success rate of less than 1%,
i.e., over 99 of every 100 of their ideas never reach the market - often
after having spent several thousand dollars on patents and prototypes.
The reason for this is evident - they assume their idea will sell
whereas, in fact, they are not qualified to make that assessment. Only
people with experience in the target market can make that assessment
with any degree of confidence.
There are a couple of other good invention evaluation services - WIN
in Missouri and WISC in Wisconsin. However, both are academic-based. The Carik group should be able to
give you a much more accurate, thorough and useful evaluation of your
idea than these other services. Time will tell. But as of now, if I were
considering spending prototype and patent dollars on a consumer product
idea, there's no question I'd buy their evaluation first.
